I'm starting this group because I keep hearing over and over again that we need to talk about race relations and reach a point of reconciliation, yet I find that there is no such place to do that. People seem to be either oblivious to race or scared to mention it even though it plays a huge role in our culture at large. The purpose of this group is to have a balanced discussion of both the Irish Revolution which led to the formation of the Irish Republic and the continuing conflict in Northern Ireland. The discussion will be based on films, monographs, and biographies. The discussion will have a rough timeline beginning with the Famine and ending with the Good Friday Accord.
